So just what is the gospel? There's probably no more succinct statement of the good news in all Scripture than what the Apostle Paul writes in I Corinthians 15:1-6:
"For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time..."
The gospel is the best of all possible news that God sent His Son Jesus Christ to absorb the wrath rightly appointed for us all - guilty sinners as we are. But now because of God's grace in Christ; He bore fully our punishment; so we might fully enjoy God's divine favor. The world was prepared for this good news by all of the Old Testament scriptures. Now we have confirmation that the gospel is true because many trustworthy eyewitnesses saw the risen Lord Jesus Christ.
