If you ask why we exist as Five Points Community Church, we have to answer most foundationally that our existence is owing to a vision of God. We are not defined mainly by a building or an address, by a shared history or a future set of plans. Most radically we are the handiwork of God. Paul says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).
Since we are made by him, we exist to glorify him in all aspects of life. So we ask, how can we show God’s supreme worth in all facets of life, “… that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ”? There’s the answer: by trusting in, hoping in, and being satisfied in his son, the Lord Jesus Christ. God is a God of unmixed joy in himself (1 Timothy 1:11). And we are made in his image such that we find our purest joy in all that he is for us in his son. The most precious realities—such as grace, truth, forgiveness, righteousness and eternal life—are all found in Christ alone.
Having found our highest joy in Christ, we cannot contain it. We must declare among our neighbors and the nations that our God reigns in Jesus Christ! So our mission statement reads, “Five Points Community Church exists to glorify God through the Spirit by pursuing joy in Christ alone that our neighbors and the nations worship him with us both now and forever.”
